This Weekend: Japantown's New People Opens
I'm so fascinated to check out Japantown's latest buzz, the New People Mall. Dedicated to all things Japanese, the brand new 3-story Torafu designed building houses an art gallery, fashion retailers and an underground theater showcasing only contemporary Japanese films.
The 'J-Pop Summit' is happening this Saturday from 11-6 pm and will feature a Gothic & Lolita fashion show, live music, and film premiere of 20th Century Boys.
Apparently New People is the first of its kind in the U.S. -it will be interesting to see if it either becomes a tourist attraction, maintains an insular Japanese market, or attracts a diverse array of demographics.
